W-MDaniel L-Jeffcoat SV-Paine HR: Freese GWRBI-Noren
The Cards, having a much better month of June, ambush Cincy with a stunning four-run rally in the 9th off Haddix and Hal Jeffcoat. Down 5-2, Musial, Boyer and Flood all single and Gene Green doubles. Katt whiffs but Blasingame singles and Noren pinch hits a sac fly for the winner. The Reds built their lead with the help of five doubles until their constant pitching bugaboo failed them again. Trading reliever Johnny Klippstein and bench slugger Steve Bilko to L.A. for starter/reliever Don Newcombe may yet pay dividends, though.

Wait, what? A late rally to win a game and not go back to .500? What strange new world is this?
What’s wrong with the Braves? It’s spooky. A run differential of +57 and Warren Spahn at 5-7. It’s 57 all over the place. Milwaukee is stuck in ’57. Yikes!!!
Now you’re creeping me out, John.
I just noticed my earlier post was at 2-57 p.m. Now I’m creeping myself out.
Bill James once referred to this as the “Pythagorean-Heinz Corollary”.
And the Braves have played 57 games. Sorry. I didn’t roll it…I just read it.
